Learn How to Say No

  • Learn how to decline meetings

Colleagues often assume they’re required to go to every meeting. However, the sooner you learn to graciously decline, the more productive you’ll ultimately be.

Ask yourself “Will I add value or learn something?” If the answer is no, tell the organiser you can’t attend. Other good reasons to decline:

  • If the meeting is too premature for you to join:
  • If you’re not the right person:
  • If you’re too senior:
  • If you’re only relevant to one section of the meeting:

Ask for an Agenda and / or propose an alternative. You colleagues will eventually thank you as they improve their meeting effectiveness.
