Are You Addicted to Your Devices?

In today’s hyper-connected world, our reliance on technology has reached unprecedented levels. A staggering 6% of U.S. employees have checked their work email during one of life’s most significant moments: when they or their spouse were in labor. This statistic is a stark reminder of how deeply ingrained our digital habits have become.

Consider this: in an 8-hour workday, the average worker is productive for just 2 hours and 53 minutes. That’s less than 3 hours of actual productivity! It’s clear that our constant interaction with screens and devices is taking a toll on our efficiency and well-being.

Your job description likely doesn’t include being tethered to a screen or checking emails every two minutes. Yet, many of us find ourselves doing just that. This behavior suggests that technology has a hold on us in ways we may struggle to admit.

Reflect on your own habits. How often have you unconsciously interacted with your devices during meetings or conferences? How much time have you spent passively scrolling through emails or social media?

The question we must ask ourselves is: how do we avoid digital addiction and use technology with intent? It’s time to take a step back and evaluate our relationship with our devices. By doing so, we can reclaim our time, focus, and overall well-being.
