Create a meeting philosophy

  • What is our team philosophy on meetings?
  1. My initial default response to a meeting is ‘No’. Why do you need me there? What is my part? Aren’t there better ways to deal with this rather than a meeting?
  1. A 1-hour meeting with 10 colleagues invited is an 11-hour meeting. Does the expected outcome of that meeting warrant such resource being taken up?
  1. Am I an actor or an extra? Do I have a speaking part? If yes then maybe it’s a useful meeting (although I would still like to see the agenda). Am I an extra? Will I be in the background listening, with maybe one or two lines? If so do I need to be in that meeting?
